Job Summary
The Used Car Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the dealership’s used vehicle operations, including inventory acquisition, pricing strategy, merchandising, reconditioning, and profitability. This role requires strong leadership with a clear focus on building, developing, and motivating high-performing teams, as well as a strong understanding of modern marketing—particularly social media and digital channels—to drive visibility, engagement, and sales. A data-driven mindset and collaborative approach are essential to delivering strong financial results and an exceptional customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the used vehicle department, fostering a positive, accountable, and team-oriented culture
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop sales staff, emphasizing teamwork, communication, and consistent performance improvement
- Source and acquire used vehicle inventory through auctions, trade-ins, and direct purchases
- Accurately and competitively appraise trade-in vehicles
- Set and maintain pricing strategies based on market trends, inventory age, and profitability goals
- Oversee the vehicle reconditioning process to ensure quality standards, cost control, and timely frontline readiness
- Monitor inventory levels, turn rates, aging, and gross profit performance
- Collaborate closely with sales, F&I, service, and marketing teams to align goals and maximize used vehicle sales
- Ensure high-quality online merchandising, including accurate descriptions, professional photos, and compelling listings across all digital platforms
- Understand and support the importance of social media marketing, online reputation, and digital engagement in driving traffic, leads, and brand awareness
- Analyze performance reports and implement strategies for continuous improvement
- Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and dealership policies and procedures
- Handle customer escalations related to used vehicle sales when necessary
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in used vehicle management or F&I management
- Strong knowledge of vehicle valuation tools, auctions, and market analytics
- Proven ability to manage inventory, pricing, and profitability
- Demonstrated success in team building, leadership, and employee development
- Excellent communication, coaching, and negotiation skills
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Proficient with dealership management systems (DMS) and inventory software
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Skills
- Experience in high-volume or multi-brand dealerships
- Strong understanding of digital retailing, social media marketing, and online vehicle merchandising

Pay: $100,000.00 - $300,000.00 per year
