POSITION SUMMARY for the Automotive Parts Manager
The Automotive Parts Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the parts department within a dealership or automotive service center. This role ensures the efficient ordering, inventory management, and distribution of automotive parts and accessories while providing excellent service to technicians, service advisors, and customers. Will also supervise parts staff, maintain optimal inventory levels, and drive department profitability.
RESPONSIBILITIES of the Automotive Parts Manager
- Department Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the parts department.
- Supervise, train, and schedule parts department staff.
- Establish departmental goals and monitor performance to ensure profitability and efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe parts storage and retail area.
- Manage parts inventory to maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Order parts from manufacturers and vendors as needed.
- Monitor inventory turnover and minimize obsolete or excess stock.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Provide parts support to service technicians to ensure timely repairs.
- Assist retail and wholesale customers with parts inquiries and orders.
- Ensure accurate pricing, invoicing, and documentation for parts transactions.
- Resolve customer concerns related to parts availability or orders.
- Vendor & Supplier Relations
- Manage warranty parts returns and core returns according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Monitor department budgets, expenses, and profitability.
- Track key performance indicators such as gross profit, inventory turnover, and fill rates.
- Prepare reports for management on departmental performance.
REQUIREMENTS for the Automotive Parts Manager
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business or automotive management preferred.
- Proficiency in CDK software.
- 3–5 years of experience in automotive parts operations, with prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of automotive systems, parts catalogs, and dealership management systems (DMS).
- Proficiency with inventory management software and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience with manufacturer parts ordering systems.
- Knowledge of wholesale parts operations.
Salary: 80-100K depending on experience plus benefits
