Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Shop Foreman to oversee daily operations within our semi-trailer Service shop. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive trailer repair knowledge and experience, and proficiency with computers and industry software. This role involves supervising our shop/mobile service technicians and apprentice technicians ensuring repair quality and efficiency, maintaining safety standards and assisting with training. The Shop Foreman will be the liaison between the shop and Service Operations Manager and administrative staff. This position is offering a monthly and quarterly bonus program in addition to the annual salary.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all shop staff including lead technicians.
- Train and develop the skill set of all technicians.
- Lead a team to screen, interview, hire, and effectively onboard new technicians and apprentices.
- Work with the lead apprenticeship trainer to make sure apprentices are getting assigned on necessary repair orders to get through the training program.
- Monitor the progress of each active job in the shop and provide daily updates to the Service Operations Manager.
- Field technical questions from all techs and co-workers.
- Prevent quality issues through communication, training, and helping to optimize the approach to the job.
- Work with technicians on any failed quality check-offs or comebacks to identify the cause and take corrective action to avoid a reoccurrence.
- Responsible for shop safety and enforcing safety procedures or submitting recommendations to management.
- Monitor efficiency reports and assist techs in reducing time spent on repairs while maintaining safety and quality.
- Ensure technicians are clocking in/out properly and adding proper notes and pictures on their work orders.
- Assist with managing tool crib program and making sure tools are checked out and returned as expected.
- Responsible for all shop equipment functioning properly.
- Make sure mobile techs are turning in their work orders from the previous day and getting on the road as quickly as possible each morning.
- Assist the Service Operations Manager in handling any disciplinary action or addressing personnel issues.
- Work with estimators to optimize the design of the job and set fair and accurate repair times.
- Utilize our ERP system, Karmak Fusion, to view reports and take corrective action on jobs that are going over time.
- Assist the Service office staff with work order maintenance in Karmak Fusion.
- Manage procurement of materials, supplies, and gasses as needed.
- Supervise the entire shop operation for adherence to all rules and standard operating procedures.
- Oversee the general cleanliness and organization of the shop.
- Support office staff by interacting with customers when required to explain repair findings or safety concerns, clarifying repairs as questions arise, and providing technical assistance.
- All other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Proven experience in a semi-trailer service shop management with a strong background in supervising teams.
- Advanced mechanical technical experience.
- Proficiency with industry software – Karmak knowledge is a plus.
- Excellent management skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and experience implementing safety protocols.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, resources, and personnel efficiently.
- A team-player mindset with great people skills, able to build rapport and mutual respect with the team.
- Proactive, self-motivated with the ability to prioritize responsibilities to lead most effectively.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $72,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
