Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of the dealership’s service department, including scheduling, workflow, and quality control to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee the work of service technicians, ensuring repairs meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Develop and implement strategies for upselling additional services such as oil changes, tire services, alignments, transmissions, brake repairs, suspension work, diesel engine repairs, shocks & struts, air brake systems, auto body repairs, and other automotive diagnostics.
- Maintain high standards for customer service by addressing concerns promptly and ensuring a positive experience from vehicle drop-off to pick-up.
- Manage auto estimating and service writing processes accurately to ensure proper billing and profitability.
- Monitor inventory levels for parts and supplies needed for various automotive repairs while controlling costs through effective vendor relationships.
- Train and motivate staff to uphold dealership policies, safety procedures, and technical excellence.
- Handle cash transactions securely while maintaining detailed records of all financial activities related to the service department.
- Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and manufacturer updates to continuously improve service offerings.
Experience
- Proven dealership experience with a strong background in auto service management or direct service technician roles.
- Extensive knowledge of automotive diagnostics across various systems including transmissions, brakes, suspensions, air brakes, alignments, oil changes, tire services, shocks & struts, diesel engines, and auto body repair.
- Hands-on mechanic experience is highly desirable to understand technical challenges faced by technicians.
- Demonstrated ability in upselling services while maintaining integrity and customer trust.
- Strong background in automotive repair procedures combined with excellent customer service skills.
- Experience with auto estimating software and effective service writing practices.
- Familiarity with cash handling procedures and inventory management within an automotive setting.
