Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, successful, seasoned and knowledgeable Service Writer to join our Matthews CDJR dealership service team. The ideal candidate will act as a liaison between customers and technicians, ensuring that all service requests are accurately communicated and executed. This role requires strong customer service skills, a solid understanding of automotive repair processes, ability to schedule, maintain and increase technician work hours, upselling repairs during oil changes, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. This person will lead an assistant service writer to help ensure performance, profit, and customer satisfaction standards are met.
Duties
- Greet customers and assess their automotive service needs.
- Accurately document customer concerns and vehicle issues.
- Prepare detailed estimates for repairs, including parts and labor.
- Coordinate with technicians to ensure timely completion of services.
- Maintain communication with customers throughout the service process.
- Increase service sales
- Manage service appointments and follow up on completed work.
- Provide information on various services such as brake repair, oil and filter changes, diesel engine repair, tire service, and auto body repair.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
- Handle cash transactions accurately and process payments, including warranties, efficiently while maintaining proper procedures
- Maintain detailed records of all service activities, parts used, and customer interactions for seamless follow-up and accountability
- Follow dealership protocols for vehicle drop-off/pick-up procedures and ensure all customer inquiries are addressed promptly
Skills
- Previous experience in service writing is REQUIRED.
- Familiarity with auto estimating practices and auto service management systems.
- Ability to effectively manage and increase technician hours. Your bonus structure will have this element included.
- Knowledge of automotive diagnostics, mechanical systems, and repair techniques including transmissions, oil changes, brake systems, suspension components, tire services, alignments, shocks & struts, diesel engines, air brakes, and auto body work
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients of varying automotive knowledge levels
- Skilled in auto estimating software and sales techniques to recommend appropriate services confidently
- Mechanic experience or hands-on automotive repair background is highly desirable to better understand technician workflows and vehicle issues
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail

Pay: $50,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
