JOB TITLE: Automotive Repair Shop Manager
POSITION TYPE: Full-Time
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly organized, forward-thinking Automotive Repair Shop Manager to lead our team and streamline daily operations. This role is not about being under a car hood every hour of the day. Instead, your primary focus is managing, organizing, and keeping the shop ahead of the game and ahead of schedule. You will act as the master planner, ensuring maximum shop efficiency while providing targeted, high-level diagnostic support only when a technician hits a roadblock.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
* Proactive Parts & Workflow Planning: Keep the shop ahead of schedule by ordering parts before a vehicle ever hits the lift or service bay, eliminating technician downtime.
* Targeted Diagnostic Support: Step in to assist mechanics with electronic diagnostic scanners on a limited basis (typically 1 to 2 cars per day) only when a technician gets stuck.
* Repair Delegation: Diagnose the root cause of complex issues on stuck vehicles and clearly direct the technician on exactly what to repair, replace, or fix.
* Shop Organization & Leadership: Maintain a highly structured, clean, and organized shop floor, maximizing overall daily bay efficiency.
* Vendor & Commercial Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for external vendors sending job orders, ensuring strict timelines are met.
* Quality Control & Testing: Conduct final test drives and strict quality control inspections on all vehicles before they are cleared for release.
* Invoicing & Collection: Create accurate client invoices and handle all financial payment collections for the shop.
* Customer Service: Deliver seamless, professional service to retail customers from drop-off to key return.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
* Strategic Thinker: Exceptional organizational skills with a proven track record of proactive scheduling and inventory planning.
* Advanced Technical Acumen: Deep mechanical and electrical knowledge, with the ability to step in, use a scanner, solve a problem quickly, and delegate the physical labor.
* Efficiency Focus: A mindset dedicated to reducing cycle times and ensuring parts are on hand before work begins.
* Strong Communicator: Ability to clearly direct technicians, negotiate with vendors, and manage client relations.
* License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required for test-driving vehicles).
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS
* Experience: 3–5+ years of shop management, shop foreman, or lead service writer experience in a high-volume environment.
* Certifications: Current ASE Certifications (specifically Advanced Engine Performance Specialist or Service Consultant) are a strong plus.
Pay: $48,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
