Experienced Automotive Service Advisor

Sky Auto Group
Honolulu, Hawaii
Full-Time | In-Person
Starting Salary: $48,000 + Performance-Based Incentives

Experienced Service Advisors — Join a Growing Automotive Group

Sky Auto Group is a locally owned and growing automotive company serving the Honolulu community through Sky Auto Repair and Sky Auto Express.

We're looking for an experienced Automotive Service Advisor who understands both sides of the business: taking exceptional care of customers and understanding the vehicles being serviced.

Previous professional automotive service experience is required for this position.

This is not an entry-level position, and we are not looking for someone who needs to be taught the fundamentals of automotive repair.

The right candidate must have a thorough working knowledge of automotive engines, mechanical systems, electrical systems, maintenance, diagnostics, and common repair procedures and be able to confidently communicate that information to customers.

Our Service Advisors are the critical connection between the customer and the technician. You must be able to understand what the customer is experiencing, communicate effectively with technicians, interpret inspection and diagnostic findings, prepare and present repair recommendations, and explain those recommendations to customers in clear, understandable terms.

What You'll Do

As a Service Advisor with Sky Auto Group, your responsibilities will include:

Greet customers and accurately identify their service and repair concerns
Ask the right questions to obtain useful information for technicians
Create, manage, and maintain accurate repair orders
Prepare and present estimates for repairs and maintenance
Explain mechanical and electrical problems clearly to customers
Review technician inspection and diagnostic findings
Translate technical information into language customers can understand
Recommend appropriate maintenance and repairs based on vehicle condition, mileage, manufacturer recommendations, and technician findings
Obtain customer authorization before repairs are performed
Communicate directly with technicians regarding diagnostics, inspections, repairs, and additional recommendations
Maintain consistent communication with customers throughout the repair process
Manage customer expectations regarding pricing and completion times
Follow up on estimates, declined services, and previously recommended repairs
Help customers prioritize repairs based on safety, reliability, maintenance, and budget
Coordinate with technicians, parts, and management to keep repair orders moving efficiently
Review completed repair orders for accuracy and completeness
Explain completed repairs and maintenance when vehicles are delivered
Build long-term relationships that encourage customer retention and repeat business
Resolve customer concerns professionally
Maintain accurate customer and vehicle records within our shop-management system
Help achieve company goals for sales, productivity, customer satisfaction, and retention

Automotive Knowledge Is Required

Candidates must have a strong understanding of automotive systems and repair.

You should be comfortable discussing and understanding systems including:

Gasoline and diesel engines
Engine mechanical systems
Cooling systems
Fuel and induction systems
Ignition systems
Starting and charging systems
Automotive electrical and electronic systems
Computer-controlled engine management systems
Automatic and manual transmissions
Drivetrain and differential systems
Steering and suspension
Brake systems
Air-conditioning and climate-control systems
Exhaust and emissions systems
Preventive maintenance
Diagnostic procedures and trouble codes
Common mechanical failures and repair procedures

You do not need to perform the repairs yourself, but you must understand what the technician is talking about and be able to accurately explain it to the customer.

Previous Automotive Experience Is Required

Previous employment in a professional automotive service or repair environment is required.

Qualified candidates should have previous experience in one or more of the following positions:

Automotive Service Advisor
Automotive Service Writer
Assistant Service Manager
Automotive Technician
Shop Foreman
Automotive Parts Professional
Dealership Service Department
Independent Automotive Repair Facility

Applicants without previous professional automotive industry experience will not be considered for this position.

Previous Service Advisor or Service Writer experience is strongly preferred.

We're Looking for More Than an Order Taker

A successful Service Advisor doesn't simply write down what the customer says and hand the repair order to a technician.

You need to understand the vehicle.

You need to understand the technician.

And you need to understand the customer.

We're looking for someone who can listen, understand, educate, recommend, communicate, sell, and follow through.

Our approach is not about high-pressure sales. It's about understanding the vehicle, identifying legitimate needs, explaining those needs clearly, and helping the customer make an informed decision.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate:

Has previous professional automotive industry experience
Has strong automotive mechanical and technical knowledge
Has excellent customer-service and communication skills
Can confidently discuss automotive repairs and maintenance
Can understand technician notes, inspections, and diagnostic findings
Can confidently present estimates and recommended services
Understands automotive terminology, components, and repair procedures
Understands the importance of sales while maintaining customer trust
Is highly organized and able to manage multiple repair orders simultaneously
Communicates effectively with both technicians and customers
Follows through and doesn't allow customers or repair orders to fall through the cracks
Can handle difficult conversations professionally
Is comfortable using computers and modern shop-management software
Takes initiative and solves problems
Works effectively in a fast-paced automotive environment
Is dependable, accountable, and professional
Works well independently and as part of a team

Why Join Sky Auto Group?

At Sky Auto Group, we believe exceptional automotive service requires both technical knowledge and exceptional communication.

Our technicians diagnose and repair the vehicles. Our Service Advisors make sure customers understand what their vehicles need, why they need it, what it will cost, and what happens next.

That's why automotive knowledge matters in this position.

We're looking for someone who can walk into a professional repair environment, communicate intelligently with technicians, confidently discuss repairs with customers, and take ownership of the repair order from beginning to end.
