Overview
Seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead a busy automotive service department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dealership auto service management, automotive diagnostics, and customer service. This role offers an excellent opportunity to oversee daily operations, ensure high-quality vehicle repairs, and enhance customer satisfaction within a fast-paced automotive environment. The Service Manager will be responsible for coordinating service technicians, managing workflow, and maintaining operational efficiency while upholding safety standards and industry best practices.
This store sells a high volume of used vehicles but also has a franchise. Prior franchise experience is desired.
Duties
- Oversee daily operations of the automotive service department, ensuring timely and efficient vehicle repairs and maintenance.
- Supervise and support service technicians, including mechanics and diagnostic specialists, to deliver high-quality service.
- Manage customer interactions by providing exceptional customer service, explaining repair needs, and ensuring satisfaction.
- Coordinate with parts and sales departments to facilitate smooth workflow and inventory management.
- Implement upselling strategies for additional services such as transmissions, oil changes, alignments, suspension work, tire services, brake repairs, diesel engine repairs, shocks & struts, air brakes, auto body repairs, and other automotive services.
- Prepare accurate estimates using auto estimating and service writing tools; communicate repair costs clearly to customers.
- Handle cash transactions and ensure proper cash handling procedures are followed.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and industry standards related to vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Monitor technician productivity and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Stay updated on automotive repair trends, including transmissions, oil changes, alignments, suspension systems, tire services, diesel engines, brake systems, and more.
Requirements
- Proven dealership experience or extensive background in auto service management is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of automotive diagnostics, mechanical systems, and repair procedures, including transmissions, oil changes, alignments, suspensions, tire services, diesel engines, shocks & struts, brake systems, auto body repair, air brakes, etc.
- Experience with auto estimating software and service writing is essential.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information effectively to clients.
- Demonstrated ability in upselling additional services to increase revenue while maintaining customer trust.
- Mechanical knowledge combined with experience as a service technician or mechanic is advantageous.
- Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and professionally.
- Leadership skills to manage a team of technicians and support staff effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing workflow and documentation.
