About Geotrek
Geotrek Vans designs and hand-builds premium off-grid camper vans that turn "someday" into a road trip this weekend — selling direct so adventure isn't taxed by dealer markups. We're obsessed with real-world testing and honest craftsmanship, and our owners aren't just customers — they're people genuinely living in and loving what we build.
Now we're bringing that experience somewhere new. San Carlos is the first location in a planned national expansion of Geotrek sales and service centers — a full showroom that pairs the excitement of discovering Geotrek for the first time with hands-on service and upgrades for owners who already love us, all under one roof. This location is the prototype, so joining now means helping shape that model, not just staffing something already figured out.
The Role
We’re looking for a Service Manager who is equally and exceptionally equipped to build the service function (systems, scheduling, inventory, service tech staffing, customer experience, and performance) and provide timely, high-quality van service and add-on installations themselves. Initial training will take place at Geotrek HQ in Boulder, CO, before transitioning to San Carlos to help launch the location. This role reports to the Sales Director for Geotrek CA, and the two of you will work closely together to build this location
What You'll Do
● Lead the buildout and launch of our new San Carlos service center — space, equipment, initial vendor relationships, and the systems needed to open for business
● Own full-service department operations once we're up and running; ticket intake, scheduling, and workflow
● Get hands-on with service and repair work yourself, especially during startup and ramp-up, while also overseeing the team as it's built out
● Own the customer experience from first contact through resolution, setting the standard for this new location
● Provide quality control and final sign-off on completed work, including your own
● Build the systems, reporting, and continuous-improvement practices for this location from scratch — informed by how our Boulder service department runs, but built for San Carlos
● Share field and customer feedback with our product and production teams so recurring issues get fixed upstream
What You Bring
● Experience managing or leading a service department in automotive, RV, marine, or a similar field
● Hands-on, technician-level service/repair experience, not just management experience, you'll be doing the work yourself, especially early on
● Experience standing up a new location, shop, or service operation from the ground up is a plus
● A track record of full ownership — you run your department with no dropped balls and no excuses
● Highly organized, with the ability to build systems and processes that scale
● Strong customer-facing and problem-solving skills, with sound, confident decision-making under pressure and ambiguity
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role, consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA).
This role combines desk-based work (scheduling, reporting, vendor and setup logistics) with substantial hands-on service and repair work, especially during setup and ramp-up — frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching, regular work in confined spaces around vehicles, and frequent lifting and carrying up to about 50 lbs. Expect real hands-on technical and diagnostic judgment alongside managerial decision-making, sustained attention to shop safety (including your own, given the hands-on work), and comfort with ambiguity and fast decisions during a startup. The role is based in an indoor service/shop environment with regular exposure to standard automotive-service hazards — tools, lifts, fluids, and noise — and requires PPE (safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, and hearing protection as needed), consistent with OSHA and applicable Cal/OSHA requirements. Expect to regularly exceed 40 hours per week, especially during the launch phase, with early/late or weekend availability sometimes required.
