Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Management: Hiring, training, motivating, and monitoring the performance of the sales team. This includes setting sales goals, tracking progress, and providing ongoing coaching.
- Sales Strategy & Analysis: Developing and implementing effective sales strategies based on market trends and sales data analysis. They track sales figures, forecast future sales, and create reports for general management.
- Inventory Management: Working with the general sales manager to manage new and used vehicle inventory levels, ordering new stock, and ensuring prompt reconditioning of used vehicles.
- Customer Relations: While they don't handle every customer, managers step in to negotiate deals, resolve customer complaints, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction to foster repeat business and referrals.
- Operations & Compliance: Collaborating with other departments like Finance & Insurance (F&I) and Service to streamline operations, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with all legal and dealership policies.
Core Values & Work Environment
- Overall, the prevalent message from the dealership itself and many employees is a tight-knit, value-driven environment that values dedication and a personal touch in the automotive industry.
- Family Atmosphere: Many employees mention feeling like part of a family, with a supportive team environment where long-tenured staff (some up to 40 years) help new members learn.
- Customer-Centric: The stated philosophy is to treat every customer like family and build relationships rather than just make a quick sale. The sales process is best described as straightforward, transparent, and no-pressure.
- Supportive Management/Team: Multiple reviews describe management and coworkers as helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure customer and employee satisfaction.
- Community Involvement: The dealership actively supports local organizations like the Hundred Nights Shelter, Monadnock United Way, Keene Community Kitchen, Cedarcrest for Children, Monadnock Human Society and more.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: A proven track record of successful automotive sales experience, often 3-5+ years, and prior management experience.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills to motivate and inspire a team.
- Communication & Negotiation: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, essential for interacting with staff, customers, and management, as well as negotiating contracts.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS) and customer relationship management (CRM) software (e.g., VIN Solutions) is highly desirable for tracking leads and performance metrics.
- Business Acumen: The ability to analyze financial data, manage budgets, and develop profitable sales promotions.
Detailed Daily Tasks
- Morning Meetings & Goal Setting: The day often starts with morning meetings to review previous day's performance, set daily goals for the team, discuss inventory highlights, and motivate staff.
- "Working the Desk" (Deal Structuring): A significant portion of the day is spent directly supporting sales consultants by structuring deals, appraising trade-ins (often using tools like MMR, KBB, ACV), and negotiating prices with customers.
- Customer Interaction: Managers frequently step in to handle customer questions, resolve escalated complaints, and build rapport to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, which is a core part of the dealership's philosophy.
- Inventory Management: The manager ensures a balanced stock of new and used vehicles, coordinating with the general sales manager to order new inventory and quickly dispose of over-aged units.
- Training & Coaching: Ongoing training is a daily/weekly task, covering product knowledge (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram specs), sales techniques, rapport building, and proper usage of CRM software (like VIN Solutions).
- F&I Department Support: Managers at family-owned dealerships often wear multiple hats, which can include assisting the Finance & Insurance (F&I) department by ensuring financing is in order and compliance procedures are followed.
- Administrative Reporting: The manager compiles regular reports on sales figures, forecasts, and performance metrics for the dealership owner and general sales manager.
