Preowned Vehicle Operator/Manager/Director
Page Toyota
21262 Telegraph Road,
Southfield, MI 48033
Our long terms used car manager is retiring and we are looking for a candidate who has integrity and honesty, immense knowledge in used car management (used car retail, vehicle acquisition and inventory management including appraisal, turn, merchandising & recon management) to run an 80–100 cars used operation.
If you’re a disciplined operator who can buy right, recon fast, price to market, desk with confidence, and lead with a calm/modern leadership style—this is a rare opportunity to step into a respected organization with long-term stability and room to grow.
About Page Auto Group
We proudly operate the longest serving Toyota store in the state of Michigan and a top-performing Honda operation in Metro Detroit. We are employee-oriented, performance-driven, and committed to career growth for ambitious leaders who want to build something strong and sustainable.
Core responsibilities:
Used Vehicle Leadership & Department Performance
- Lead day-to-day used car operations targeting 80–100+ used units/month
- Own key KPIs: turn rate, aging buckets, GPU, recon days, source mix, wholesale performance
- Run a structured daily cadence: inventory/pricing/recon/aged-unit action plans
Vehicle Acquisition (Trades, Street Buys, Service Drive, Auction)
- Manage a disciplined acquisition strategy across:
- Trade appraisals (critical)
- Street buys (with acquisition manager/sales team)
- Service drive buys
- OEM/auction lanes (Toyota & Honda preferred)
- Build and execute a weekly “buy plan” by segment/price band to keep inventory healthy
- Use data and process to prevent “water” (bad buys, uncontrolled recon, wrong cars)
Appraisals & Negotiation (a must-have strength)
- Personally conduct/approve appraisals using a consistent method:
- vehicle inspection + test drive + history report + market comps + recon estimate + exit strategy
- Confidently negotiate trade values and protect the store while keeping customers treated fairly
- Coach the sales team on trade walkarounds and expectation setting
Recon Management (fast, controlled, accountable)
- Partner with Service to manage recon cycle time, cost control, and quality
- Drive a “time-to-line” culture: remove bottlenecks, manage approvals, coordinate parts/detail
- Prefer and maximize in-house recon while using outside vendors strategically when needed
Inventory Management, Pricing, Merchandising & Digital Retail
- Own daily pricing governance and strategy (market-based pricing with aging rules)
- Execute strict aged-unit actions (repricing, merchandising refresh, wholesale exit discipline)
- Enforce high merchandising standards:
- photos, comments, equipment accuracy, CarFax/AutoCheck visibility, online presentation
- Improve online performance and lead conversion through digital retail best practices
Desking, TO, Closing & F&I Partnership
- Desk and close deals efficiently; skilled in TO and objection handling
- Protect front gross while leaving a leg for F&I to win appropriately
- Drive consistent deal structure, clean paperwork flow, and speed of execution
Leadership & Culture
- Lead by example: disciplined, self-motivated, calm under pressure
- Coach, train, and motivate without fear-based management
- Be a strong cross-department partner (Sales, Service, Parts, F&I, BDC/Internet, Accounting)
What we’re looking for (skills & requirements)
Must-haves
- Proven used car management experience with accountability for turn, recon, pricing, and acquisition
- Strong appraisal skills and trade negotiation ability (non-negotiable)
- High integrity, transparency, and “clean-deal” mindset
- Highly self-motivated, disciplined, organized, and fast-paced
- Excellent closing/TO ability and strong customer interaction skills
- Comfortable using data daily to make decisions (not ego-based)
