Automotive Service Advisor / Shop Foreman
Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
Job Type: Full-time
Work Location: In person — Columbus, OH
Job Description
Premier Tire & Auto Care is looking for an experienced automotive professional to join our team as an Automotive Service Advisor / Shop Foreman.
This position is ideal for someone with strong automotive knowledge who can help manage the flow of work between clients, technicians, parts suppliers, and management.
Previous automotive repair industry experience is required. We are looking for someone who understands vehicle repairs and diagnostics well enough to communicate effectively with technicians, review repair recommendations, prepare estimates, explain repairs to clients, and help keep the shop running efficiently.
This is also an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanic or automotive technician who is ready to move away from full-time wrenching and use their technical knowledge in a service advisor, leadership, and shop coordination role.
The position is primarily focused on service advising, workflow management, client communication, and supporting technicians rather than performing repairs full time.
Responsibilities
- Greet and assist walk-in clients in a professional and friendly manner
- Answer incoming calls, respond to client questions, and schedule appointments
- Listen to client concerns and accurately document vehicle symptoms and service requests
- Review technician inspections, diagnoses, and repair recommendations
- Prepare repair estimates and clearly explain recommended repairs and maintenance to clients
- Obtain authorization for repairs and communicate changes or additional recommendations
- Coordinate and prioritize work between technicians based on workload, skill level, parts availability, and client needs
- Help manage daily shop workflow and keep repair jobs moving efficiently
- Monitor the progress of vehicles throughout the repair process
- Communicate with technicians regarding diagnoses, repair needs, parts, approvals, and completion timelines
- Keep clients informed throughout the repair process
- Follow up with clients regarding estimates, appointments, maintenance needs, and service recommendations
- Assist with parts ordering, supplier communication, pricing, and parts availability
- Help identify correct parts and resolve parts-related issues when necessary
- Create invoices, process payments, and use the shop’s computer and point-of-sale systems
- Review completed jobs and help ensure repairs are ready before vehicles are returned to clients
- Address client concerns and complaints promptly and professionally
- Help maintain organized front-office and shop operations
- Support technicians and management in maintaining productivity, quality, and an efficient work environment
- Help identify workflow problems and opportunities to improve shop operations
Requirements
- Previous professional automotive industry experience is required
- Strong understanding of automotive repair, maintenance, and vehicle systems
- Experience as an Automotive Service Advisor, Shop Foreman, Service Manager, Lead Technician, Diagnostic Technician, or experienced Automotive Technician/Mechanic is strongly preferred
- Ability to understand and discuss technician diagnoses and repair recommendations
- Strong client service and communication skills
- Ability to clearly explain automotive repairs and maintenance to clients
- Comfortable speaking with clients in person and over the phone
- Ability to coordinate multiple technicians, vehicles, repair orders, and priorities at the same time
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Experience preparing estimates and repair orders
- Familiarity with parts ordering and working with automotive suppliers
- Ability to use a computer, point-of-sale system, and basic office software
- Valid driver’s license required
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Professional attitude and ability to work effectively with both clients and technicians
Experienced Mechanics Ready to Get Off the Tools
We strongly encourage experienced automotive technicians and mechanics who are ready to transition away from full-time wrenching to apply.
If you have spent years diagnosing and repairing vehicles but are looking for a position that is less physically demanding while still allowing you to use your automotive knowledge, this may be an excellent next step.
Your mechanical experience can be extremely valuable in helping:
- Communicate with technicians
- Understand diagnoses and repair recommendations
- Build accurate estimates
- Explain repairs to clients
- Coordinate shop workflow
- Order the correct parts
- Identify potential problems before they delay a repair
- Help maintain quality and productivity throughout the shop
This is not primarily a technician position. Occasional hands-on assistance may be needed, but the primary responsibilities are service advising, shop coordination, client communication, and overseeing workflow.
Compensation and Benefits
- $40,000.00 - $53,000.00 per year
- Discretionary performance-based bonus opportunities
- Paid time off
- 401(k)
- Employee discounts on automotive services and products
- Additional pay structure will be discussed during the hiring process
- Opportunity for additional responsibility and advancement based on performance and business needs
Premier Tire & Auto Care is looking for an experienced automotive professional who can help bridge the gap between our clients and technicians, keep the shop organized, and help ensure repairs move smoothly from initial diagnosis through completion.
If you are an experienced Service Advisor, Shop Foreman, Lead Technician, or an experienced mechanic who is ready to put down the tools and move into the next stage of your automotive career, we encourage you to apply.
